FOREST PARK AND YMCA NORTH BRANCH
HOST FAMILY FUN BLOCK PARTY DAY

NORTHLAND - The Forest Park Civic Association and the YMCA North will host a Family Fun Block Party Day on Saturday, August 6, 2005, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. at the YMCA, 1640 Sandalwood Place, Columbus, OH 43229.

The Fourth Annual Block Party is only days away and packed with even more entertainment, prizes, food and competition than ever before. The party will be on the back lawn of the YMCA facility on the corner of Karl Rd. and Sandalwood Dr. The event is open to all YMCA members as well as Forest Park residents. While admission is free, participants are encouraged to first report to the check-in table before entering into the main entertainment area. The Block Party is a product of the ever-growing partnership between the YMCA and the Forest Park Civic Association. A variety of side dishes will accompany the hot dog and hamburgers that will be grilled on an open fire and beverages will also be provided.

Columbus Police Officer, Roy Lissath, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. Officer Lissath serves as a supplemental security officer for the Forest Park Civic Association. He will be conducting the raffles and announcing the winners. Block Party organizers have been very successful collecting support for the summer event. Items have been donated from Max and Erma’s, the Ohio Historical Society, Columbus Bowling Palace, Wyandot Lake, The Columbus Zoo, The Great Lakes Science Center, The Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Magic Mountain, and the Columbus Museum of Art. There is no cost for any of the raffles.

A dessert bake off contest will be held and prizes will be awarded. Participants are encouraged to drop off their desserts no later than 4:45 P.M. and to mark their dessert containers with their names and phone numbers. The judging will take place between 5:00 P.M. and 5:30 P.M.

The annual tradition of a game of Tug of War will take place around 6:30 P.M. between Forest Park East and Forest Park West residents. The Block Party will offer entertainment for the kids, which includes balloon animals, face painting, Ring Toss, Life Size Puzzles, and the Bounce House, which is being donated by Apex Inflatables.

The region now developed as Forest Park was originally awarded by President John Adams to James Hamilton in payment for military services during the Revolutionary War. This acreage was subsequently sold to others and developed into farms in which state it remained until its acquisition by the Forest Park Developers.

Forest Park, including Forest Park East and West, was developed by Metzger Brothers Company as a well-planned, self-contained community. Forest Park West was the first in Columbus, and among the first in the nation, to incorporate internal shopping and recreation into a planned residential community, making it a self-sufficient community. The Development of Forest Park West was commenced in 1961 and Forest Park East in 1965.

The Forest Park Community is located in the far north portion of Columbus, Ohio, south of Ohio Route 161 (formerly Worthington - Granville Free Turnpike), east of Interstate Highway 71, and west of Cleveland Avenue. Karl Road (formerly Hess and McGuffey Free Turnpike) separates Forest Park East and West.

Since its beginning on April 7, 1962, the Forest Park Civic Association has performed a vital function in this community. It has sponsored and coordinated a fine array of activities for all of our citizens. The FPCA has represented all of the residents of Forest Park to city government agencies, developers, builders and local merchants. It has offered, at its general meetings, numerous distinguished speakers and informative programs.
