FOREST PARK CIVIC ASSOCIATION
TO HOLD GENERAL MEETING
NORTHLAND - The next general meeting of the Forest Park Civic Association (FPCA) will be held at 7 P.M. on Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at the Karl Road Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, 5590 Karl Road. The meeting will be held in the general purpose room just inside and to the left of the outer doors of the Library.
This meeting will include a presentation by representatives of American Electric Power (AEP) Ohio regarding nearby AEP facilities, including the Karl Road substation and the fire in November that caused an outage in much of the Northland area. They will also present and address questions about energy costs and regulation.
Also on the agenda is the election and installation of 2006 FPCA Officers and Area Representatives. Volunteers and nominations are currently being sought (please e-mail nominations to nominations@fpcivic.org) and will be accepted at the meeting. All Forest Park residents are invited and encouraged to attend.
The region now developed as Forest Park was originally awarded by President John Adams to James Hamilton in payment for military services during the Revolutionary War. This acreage was subsequently sold to others and developed into farms in which state it remained until its acquisition by the Forest Park Developers.
Forest Park, including Forest Park East and West, was developed by Metzger Brothers Company as a well-planned, self-contained community. Forest Park West was the first in Columbus, and among the first in the nation, to incorporate internal shopping and recreation into a planned residential community, making it a self-sufficient community. The Development of Forest Park West was commenced in 1961 and Forest Park East in 1965.
The Forest Park Community is located in the far north portion of Columbus, Ohio, south of Ohio Route 161 (formerly Worthington - Granville Free Turnpike), east of Interstate Highway 71, and west of Cleveland Avenue. Karl Road (formerly Hess and McGuffey Free Turnpike) separates Forest Park East and West.
Since its beginning on April 7, 1962, the Forest Park Civic Association has performed a vital function in this community. It has sponsored and coordinated a fine array of activities for all of our citizens. The FPCA has represented all of the residents of Forest Park to city government agencies, developers, builders and local merchants. It has offered, at its general meetings, numerous distinguished speakers and informative programs.
